Twenty Four Years Old.
It feels good because 8 months ago when I was 23 I was putting in the work.
It was around November of 2016 when little 23 year old me was feeling burnt out. Questions like what am I doing with my life, what do I want to do with my life, you know the real questions.
Obviously I knew two things.
1. I loved photographing couples
2. I wanted to be self employed FOREVER
I was already photographing couples, and I was already self employed yet I felt empty and unfulfilled. I was exhausted trying to make rent, trying to keep up with the editing and taking on jobs that didn't actually fill my soul. From that I reached out to Jamie and I made a video application for her Made True Intensive. Six months to find my why, fill my heart up and explore outside of my comfort zone. I'll get real with you and leave an excerpts from the audio in my application video.
"I joke that I'm living the dream, and while 70% of the time I feel that way. 30% of the time I question if I'll become just another statistic. At 23 I didn't picture myself here. At 23 I didn't expect to wake up each morning overwhelmed with the thought of where my energy is needed most. I didn't expect the success, and I didn't expect to learn that not all busy is good. Mostly I didn't expect to compromise my happiness for the dream."
Jamie Hyatt chose me. She connected with me, and reached out to change my world. I couldn't put a dollar amount on how awesome those six months were. What I can tell you is, I won't be the burnt out wedding photographer. I've figured out my why, found the clients that make my heart burst, and achieved balance in my personal life. It's absolutely mind blowing what self care can do for your business, which is essentially why I'm writing this blog.
From these changes within, I've noticed my business growing at a rate I didn't expect, but finally in a direction that makes me feel whole. These changes and these resources I was either given as homework or found through online searching, have changed my mindset. I'm still the sassy, sarcastic, Jinx loving gal, but with a better sense of gratitude judgement of where I'm pointing my camera... (aka only towards weddings). There you have it folks, the last 8 months in a nutshell. The daily gratitude, the daily movement which doesn't necessarily mean go to the gym. Putting myself first has never been simpler, but also never been more rewarding. If you're feeling stuck in your personal life, business or just in general. Look inwards.
